Teeth Straightening For Teenagers and Adults in Reading

Crooked smile solutions and treatment plans

Why is Teeth Straightening A Good Option For Me?

Every patient has different reasons for wanting straighter teeth, but some of the most common reasons include:

  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Teeth that are misaligned
  • Teeth that are crooked
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • A problem with the bite

These kinds of issues can be very difficult to deal with if they cause you to feel embarrassed or self-conscious about your smile. You may also find you have issues adequately cleaning your teeth, have problems with eating or talking, or your bite could be affected.

The Elms Dental Practice has a wide range of cosmetic straightening treatments that focus on the ‘social six’ teeth that are at the front of the mouth, central to the smile. We also offer more comprehensive treatments for problems that are more complex.

Do I Need A Consultation For Teeth Straightening?

We have treatments that are suitable for adults and treatments suitable for children and teens too. In some instances, we may recommend early orthodontic treatment which can prevent any need for more detailed straightening work in the future.

The start of the process requires a consultation so that we can assess your needs and provide you with the treatment options you need to get the best possible results.

Are Traditional Braces Effective?

Traditional braces are still very effective and they are much more comfortable than they were many years ago. They also do not have such a noticeable effect on how you speak and eat in the same way they used to.

Traditional braces are often the chosen treatment for more extensive bite problems, or issues were arches require a lot of straightening. However, they are also a good treatment choice for aesthetic smile issues too, although there are more discreet options available depending on your needs.

Is Invisalign An Effective Straightening Treatment?

Invisalign is an innovative and effective smile straightening treatment that we are very pleased to offer. It is incredibly discreet and so perfect for patients who don't want their straightening device to be obvious.

There are no wires, no brackets and you can even floss, brush your teeth, and eat with Invisalign because the aligners are completely removable.

The Invisalign Process

Consultation: Invisalign treatment starts in our clinic with our dentist who will listen to your expectations and needs, speak to you about costs and the kind of results you can expect, and then create your bespoke treatment plan. We then create a digital version of your smile as it is now, and using the special Invisalign technology we can show you how your teeth will look at each stage of treatment. Just by looking at the screen you can see how your teeth will look following Invisalign treatment, no need to guess, the amazing results you can expect will be right there in front of you!

At this stage we make any minor adjustments and a more detailed treatment plan is produced. We will also speak to you about payment instalments to help spread the cost of treatment.

Preparation For Invisalign

There is usually no need to remove teeth to make room for straightening with this system, and instead we can polish between the teeth to create the space for movement.

Invisalign Treatment

You will have bespoke aligners provided every two weeks and during those two weeks you need to wear the aligners from 20-22 hours every single day. During this time we will also check your progress and make any necessary adjustments needed to keep treatment on course. This process can take anywhere between 6-24 months depending on your starting point and your adherence to wearing the aligners for the correct amount of time daily.

Over the course of your treatment your teeth will be gently moving into position until the very last set of aligners are used to make the final precise adjustments. We can then discuss retainers with you to keep your smile beautifully straight. You can have removable retainers but permanent retainers tend to be more effective at keeping the teeth in position.
